SUBSTANCE USE | WINNEBAGO COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT

Substance Use Prevention Program: - Develop and implement evidence-based substance use prevention programs and practices for youth, families, and communities. - Monitoring youth substance use trends with surveys, creating awareness about youth substance use, educating, and mobilizing communities around prevention activities. - Advocate for drug free communities through community laws. Drug Overdose Prevention Program: - Provides education and awareness to community members on the opioid epidemic and how to prevent death due to an opioid overdose. - Provides free Naloxone/Narcan trainings and opioid overdose kits. Training sessions are held virtually via Zoom. - Provides community members with resources related to addiction and mental health. Medication Drop Box: Available for disposing of unused and unneeded medication in a medication drop box located on the 4th floor of the Winnebago County Health Department. Tobacco and Vaping Cessation Program: - Eliminates and reduces secondhand and third hand smoke exposure in public. - Provides local school districts with youth prevention curriculum. - Addresses electronic nicotine delivery systems or e-cigarettes use by youth. - Assists impacted individuals with notification of partners. - Enforces and educate business owners about the Smoke Free Illinois Act and inspecting retailers to ensure compliance in not selling tobacco products to minors. - Provides information to local residents about resources to assist with tobacco cessation efforts through the Illinois Tobacco Quitline. Fentanyl and Xylazine test strips are also available through WCHD at no cost.
