GENERAL ASSISTANCE | POWESHIEK COUNTY OFFICES
General Assistance is a county-funded program that can help with emergency financial needs including:
Current rent
Current utility monthly usage including water, electric, or gas
Non-psych prescriptions of up to $100 in a one-month period
Burial/cremation assistance
Does not assist with deposits of any kind. Eligibility is based on Federal Poverty Guidelines. All funding approved through General Assistance will be paid directly to the vendor or landlord.
General Assistance is located within the Auditor's Office on the main floor of the Poweshiek County Courthouse.

Application Packet, proof of income (including unemployment, SSI/SSDI, child support), copies of ID and SS cards for all members of the household, current bill requesting assistance for, copies of current bank statements and any other forms requested by GA
Eligibility
Must be 18 years of age or older, a resident of Poweshiek County for at least 30 days, meet income guidelines, candidates who are in subsidized housing or accessing FIP are ineligible
