Open to any consumer struggling with their debt payments; Clients need steady and sufficient income to make the new monthly payments

Recent credit card, store card, and collection account statements If not available, recent information may be pulled from a credit report A list of monthly household expenses is helpful but can be created with the counselor

Application process

Free counseling session via phone, email, or text; Clients who choose to enroll can sign the agreement provided by the counselor

Fees

Fees vary by state: Enrollment $25 (NE) or $50 (IA); Administrative monthly fee is 15% of payment to creditors, with a maximum of $75

Negotiates with current creditors to lower or eliminate the interest rate (typically to 2% to 8%) and have clients debt-free in five years or less.

- There is no prepayment penalty.

- Clients can leave the program at any time, although the creditors may return the interest rates to previous levels.

- Regardless of how many creditors are owed, this program works on a single, consolidated monthly payment.
