Application process
Applications may be completed online or by calling to schedule an appointment with a local Social Security Administration office. Before applying, individuals should consider what month they want to start their Retirement benefit (between age 62 and 70) and if they need to apply for Medicare separately or to be enrolled automatically. After the application has been submitted, participants will get their first benefit payment a month after the one they selected in their application. Applicants can check the status of their application online
