- To apply, visit website or nearest RTA registration office in-person - For people with disabilities, an application may be requested by phone and mailed Documents Required: - Reduced Fare Application - Copy of Photo ID - 2" by 2" color photo (if applying by mail) People with Disabilities must also include ONE of the following: - SSI or SSDI benefit letter - Medicare card - Disability ID card - Completed Reduced Fare Application Professional Verification form (included in application packet) - Letter from a professional verifying disability Veterans with a service-connected disability must also include: - VA benefit letter Medicare Card Holders must also include: - Copy of Medicare card - Verification of Medicare status from the Social Security Administration (if coverage obtained due to disability)

Description

Offers reduced fares on public transit to the following groups: - Seniors, over the age of 65 - People with disabilities, under the age of 65 - Veterans with a service-connected disability - Medicare card holders Qualified participants will be issued a Reduced Fare Permit to be used on Metra, Pace and CTA transit. Operates throughout the RTA's six-county region (Lake, Cook, DuPage, Kane, McHenry, and Will counties). **Note: A Ride Free Program is available to older adults and people with disabilities through the Illinois Department on Aging. To be eligible, individuals must meet age and income requirements. Please see "Illinois Department on Aging - Benefit Access Program" for more information.
