Automotive Repair and Maintenance | ELA TOWNSHIP - General and Emergency Assistance

Provides temporary financial support to help township residents pay overdue rent and utilities. Also covers the cost of car repairs if the individual is employed. Aid is provided short-term while resident finds employment or waits for disability decision.

Application process

Call or email to request application packet. Applications can be mailed or picked up at the Township by request. Documents required (varies on a case by case basis): - Valid Driver’s License or State ID/Photo ID for all persons 16 years of age or older - SS Cards and Birth Certificates for all persons listed on the application - Medical Cards for all persons on the application - Citizenship Papers, Citizenship Certificate, or LPR Card - Marriage License, death certificate, military service record and/or prison card - Divorce/Separation papers including settlements, alimony, child support payments, etc. - Lease, rent receipts, and/or mortgage payments for last 6 months, tax bill - Current checking and savings statements; if you do not have a bank or credit union account, receipts, or copies of money orders you use to pay your bills, if you use a prepaid card a statement or printout from website - Trust funds, other securities, or bonds - Pay stubs for the past 30 days, records of all other income for all persons on application - Unemployment compensation documentation - Most recent tax returns - Documentation for; Social Security, Veterans - Benefits, Workers Compensation, Unemployment, - Insurance, Retirement Benefits, or any other income - IDHS records or related documentation (Rental Assistance, TANF, SNAP, Medicaid, AABD) - Titles and/or registration for ALL vehicles in your possession including recreational vehicles - All utility bills for the household including current and final notices - Physician’s statement stating your specific medical condition, report of incapacity, determination of disability, proof that you have applied for SSI or SSDI - EA application completed and signed by all members of the family

Eligibility

- Must be an Ela Township resident - Must be 18 years or older - Must be a US resident or obtain legal status - Must not have received Emergency Assistance in the last 12 months - Must not receive SSI or other government assistance - Must apply for ALL other possible benefits, including but not limited to, SNAP (food stamps), Cash Assistance, unemployment, or TANF - Must complete the entire application process
