Greenlight Family Services has provided legal guardianship services since 2003. Guardianship is legal custody that allows the caregiver to make decisions for the child in their care. It differs from adoption because the biological parents' rights are not terminated. Guardianship allows the caregiver to make legal, medical, educational, and financial decisions for the child or adult in their care.

Greenlight Family Services is a nonprofit organization that has been serving Illinois since 2003. Greenlight's work centers on Illinois adoption and guardianship, as well as post-adoption and post-guardianship services. Families include those with children who were a part of the foster care system and those who have not been involved. Greenlight also provides free trauma-informed therapy sessions for students who are survivors of sexual assault through its Greenlight Counseling program.
