Eligibility

Open to resident(s) of area served who have lived in the area for a minimum of 1 year; Must meet income guidelines (adjusted for family size); Debt-to-income ratio of 30% for housing and 43% or lower overall; Willingness to partner and contribute sweat equity hours

Required documents

  • Photo ID
  • Complete federal tax returns from the last 2 years, including W-2s from every employer
  • Copies of last two bank statements with all pages (checking and savings)
  • Proof of US legal permanent residency (permanent resident cards, US birth certificates, certificates of naturalization, or US passports
  • Proof of any other type of income
  • Proof of income (3 most consecutive pay stubs for all employed household members over the age of 18)
  • Copy of most recent benefit statement (if applicable)
  • Court document and evidence of receipt for last 3 months of alimony and/or child support (if applicable)

Each Habitat home is built in partnership with homeowner families, sponsors, and volunteers and sold to the partner family, who repays an affordable mortgage over 20 years. Homeowners attend a series of workshops on financial literacy and home maintenance so they are well-prepared for home ownership.
