Family Support Groups: Provides support groups for anyone affected by blood cancer. Groups are designed to provide mutual support and education to members who may feel a little less alone by meeting with others whose situations are similar to their own. Groups are facilitated by two credentialed health/mental health professionals who have extensive oncology and group work experience. Additional support groups may be located in each local LLS region. Peer-to-Peer Support: First Connection: Patients and their family members are matched with peer volunteers based on diagnosis, age, gender, and other factors that might create a mutual understanding and ease of communication. Program gives patients and family members the opportunity to share experiences with someone who has "been through it," and obtain valuable information about LLS and other resources available to support them. Peer volunteers are trained in basic counseling skills, are regularly updated about LLS and community resources, and are committed to confidentiality. Chat Groups: Offers live, weekly online chats. Chats provide a friendly forum to share experiences and chat with others about anything from the initial phase of diagnosis to treatment and survivorship. Chats are moderated by an oncology social worker. Chats groups offered include: - Acute leukemia. - Caregivers. - Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL)/Small-cell lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL). - Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). - Coronavirus (COVID-19) chat for patients and caregivers. - Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). - Myeloma. - Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN). - Non-hodgkin lymphoma. - Young adults.
