ADVOCACY | SOJOURN SHELTER AND SERVICES

Sojourn Shelter and Services provides advocacy, information, and support to the victims of domestic violence throughout both civil and criminal court proceedings. They assist clients in completing orders of protection and advocate for them before the presiding judges. They also provide community referrals and advocacy for clients. Offices are located in the Sangamon, Menard, Christian, Montgomery, and Logan County Courts Complexes. Court advocates assist domestic violence victims in filing for orders of protection and understand legal rights regarding domestic violence. Offices are also located in Logan, Menard, Christian, and Montgomery counties.

COVID-19: - Accepting new shelter clients as normal. One bedroom, which has a private bathroom, has been left open as a quarantine area for sick clients. - Sojourn's 24-hour hotline is active and manned by a staff member at all times. - The shelter kitchen is now open for set hours each day. Hours are posted on the door. If clients need to access the kitchen outside of the normal hours, they need to see shelter staff. - No outside guests are being allowed in Sojourn. If someone comes to the shelter, we are communicating with them via the security speaker or by phone. - Walk-in clients are being immediately taken to the conference room, which is allowing for social distancing of 6 feet or more. The conference room is being wiped down after each use. - All other shelter provisions inclusive of the providing of laundry facilities, clothing, personal hygiene items, bus tokens and food/meals have not been altered in any manner. - Individual crisis management appointments are being completed via phone. - Regular in-person groups have been suspended. Groups are being provided via the issuance of educational packets to clients. - Non-residential appointments are being completed via phone. - Assistance with orders of protection are available as well as court advocacy. Some county courthouses have limited hours or cases being heard. - Currently not accepting prepared meals 24/7.
