Courses are taught by NAMI family members, trained mentors or peer teachers, topics includes listening and communication techniques, problem solving techniques, coping mechanisms, community resources, medication use in the treatment of mental illness in children and adults, relapse prevention information, recovery, rehabilitation and the self care skills needed to deal with a loved one's mental illness as well as its impact on the family.
