The Living Room: Forever Hope - Thresholds - Center for Mental Wellbeing - Ravenswood

Thresholds offer mental health crisis support through The Living Room - Forever Hope on the north side of Chicago. It is an entirely peer-led mental health crisis respite center, an alternative to psychiatric hospitalization. The Living Room at Thresholds is a comfortable, safe, and quiet place for those experiencing a mental health crisis. This program is run for those in recovery, by those in recovery.Staff at the Living Room help guests through a screening and assessment process in a natural, comfortable setting. They are ready with a number of trauma-informed supports and interventions to help meet the needs of each individual. This model has been successful in preventing unnecessary psychiatric hospitalizations that can be distressing and exacerbate mental health symptoms. In contrast, Thresholds' Living Room is a calm, peaceful, and inviting space with plenty of natural light. The Living Room is housed in a building that also features many other on-site services that may be utilized by Thresholds clients, including a primary care clinic and pharmacy. Thresholds' Living Room is staffed by peers - those that have their own lived experience of mental illness - so they are able to provide empathetic and caring supports.
