Provides emergency food and gas vouchers to permanent Story County residents who are experiencing a financial crisis or emergency.

Provides emergency assistance when funds are available. Assistance is provided through vouchers written directly to the service provider and may include assistance with rent, utilities, medical prescriptions, clothing, and food.

Also participates with the Nicor Gas Sharing program, which provides assistance with natural gas bills for those in need. Applications are available during those months in which the program is operating.

Assists veterans, their widows, widowers, wives, and minor children with filling out forms to enroll in VA Healthcare system as well as burial benefits, education, home loan assistance, VA pensions, and Veterans Affairs Medical Van Available.

If a veteran needs a ride to a medical appointment, they may contact the Veterans Affairs Director at 641-373-0349 to arrange transportation with the VA Medical Van.

May also help with referrals to, or with funds, when available for food vouchers, rent and or utility payment and medical expense. 

May be able to provide assistance with emergency food or shelter (vouchers). Can also provide a voucher for one night in a motel and one meal for parents with minor children in an emergency situation.

Provides assistance on a temporary basis for a limited time for basic needs that may include rent/lot rent, interest on mortgage, utilities-gas, electric, water; food vouchers for clients who are unable to work. Cannot be on Subsidized Housing, a student, receive Social Security, or a Veteran.

Provides coupon booklets to assist older adults with purchasing fruits and vegetables. Coupons can be used at local Farmers Markets and roadside stands at approved locations. Booklets are distributed during the normal business hours of local senior citizen center and booklet recipients receive a list of approved market sites.

Provides up to $150 to families for utilities, diapers, groceries, gas for vehicles, and other needs.

Offers assistance to those in need with rent, utilities, food, and burial expense assistance. Must meet eligibility guidelines.

Offers financial assistance to members of the American Legion with children ages 18 and under who lives with the Veteran. Services include needs rental assistance, utility assistance, food, and more.

Provides monthly financial assistance to persons who do not have adequate income or resources to provide for their own basic needs. Funds may be disbursed for specific basic maintenance needs such as shelter (rental/mortgage assistance), utilities, food, clothing, household supplies, personal essentials, and laundry.

General Assistance eligibility is re-determined monthly, by appointment, and as long as the recipient maintains his/her eligibility, they may continue to receive a monthly General Assistance grant.
