Transitional Living Program - Child Link

The Child Link Transitional Living Program has been established with the goal of supplying young adult women, who will soon be aging out of the system, with the skills needed for self-sufficiency and independence. The program teaches resourcefulness through practical hands-on learning techniques emphasizing the development of educational, vocational, financial, domestic, and personal safety skills. The young women are first financially supported by Child Link, then they are encouraged to open bank accounts and support themselves.

The Transitional Housing (TH) Program provides various services as survivors strive to establish safe and stable homes free from violence. The program assists survivors with searching for affordable rental housing in communities in which survivors desire to live (based on their consideration of children's school/day-care, employment, support systems, etc.), providing rental subsidy and utility support for up to 24 months, and regaining emotional stability and health through counseling one-on-one and/or in a group setting.

AIDS Foundation of Chicago's supportive housing programs are collaborations of community-based social service providers that simultaneously care for the medical and housing needs of people who are chronically ill (with HIV or another chronic disease) and homeless. The project partners believe that when homeless individuals with chronic medical conditions are able to focus their energies on healing and maintaining their health, rather than coping with the challenging circumstances that arise from living on the streets and in shelters, their health will improve.
