A medical certificate from a doctor or local Board of Health can stop disconnection for 60 days if you haven't used a medical certificate in the past 12 months or you paid off an unpaid previous balance related to a last medical certificate.

Illinois American Water has partnered with Salvation Army agencies to form the H20 Help to Others Program which helps provide supplemental funding to Illinois American Water residential customers who would otherwise have trouble paying their bills. The Salvation Army agencies' trained caseworkers determine the needs of families and individuals. Another benefit of H2O Help to Others is that it often connects customers with other sources of aid in their communities, including other assistance programs for which they might qualify. The Salvation Army may assist an individual/family one time per calendar year with a maximum of $100.00 per individual/ family on a delinquent account.
