Legal representation for indigent individuals charged with a criminal offense in DuPage County. The representation begins only after the accused person requests the appointment of counsel by the Court, is shown to be indigent by filing and affidavit of assets and liabilities, and the Court issues a written order directing that person is to be represented by the Public Defender's Office.
Provides legal representation to persons who cannot afford to hire an attorney. Public defenders are appointed by the court and cover various cases. Cases include: - Criminal - Juvenile - Mental health - Dependency cases
Provides legal services for indigent persons in Vermilion County. Lawyers and staff represent persons in criminal, traffic, juvenile, abuse/neglect and other matters when appointed by the court.
The Office of the Public Defender provides attorneys to indigent clients in the courts of McLean County as mandated by the U.S. Constitution, the Illinois Constitution, and Illinois law. Representation by the public defender begins only after the accused person requests the appointment of counsel and the person provides proof of indigence to a court screening officer. The court then, by written order, directs the public defender to represent the indigent person. The public defender is also charged, when appointed, with the representation of any indigent party in juvenile proceedings and some mental health proceedings.
