- Encouraging older persons to participate in senior programs.

- Follow up with older persons and agencies to determine whether services have been received and the needs of the older person are met.

- Provide client advocacy to secure benefits.

Helps low-income seniors ages 65 and older or individuals with disabilities apply for reduced-price car registration and free city bus passes through the Illinois Department on Aging Benefit Access program (previously known as the Circuit Breaker program).

Helps with the online benefits application and with the required proof of income submission.

Transportation Expense Assistance
Provides older adults assistance to apply for the Benefits Access Application (BAA), which offers a discount on license plate renewal and free bus passes. Once application is approved, a certificate of eligibility can be printed to take to one's local transit authority or Secretary of State Office. Qualifying individuals will receive a discount on their license plate renewal fee, making the plates available to them for $10. Bus passes will be free.

Caregiver Counseling

Provides a multi-purpose center offering social, educational, health, and recreational programs to seniors and community members of all ages. Programs include:

- Activities, classes, resources, and groups to facilitate and support healthy lifestyles for clients.

- Cafe open five days a week. Donations are welcomed to support its operation.

- Medical equipment loan closet.

- Volunteers coordinate with a local supermarket to provide home grocery delivery weekly.

- Annual health fair and flu / pneumonia clinic is held in collaboration with the Ogle County Health Department in the facility.

- Exercise and fitness classes, in partnership with Highland Community College, are offered on Mon, Wed, Fri: 9:00 am.

- Houses the SHIP program, which assists clients with Medicare insurance issues and other assistance such as help with Benefit Access Application.

Offers comprehensive health services and education, focusing on HIV, Hepatitis C, Gonorrhea, and Chlamydia counseling and testing, alongside overdose prevention with Nasal Narcan, and the distribution and training for Fentanyl and Xylazine test strips. Also offers blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol screenings, Risk Reduction Counseling with safer sex supplies, and Harm Reduction Counseling with safer use supplies. Additionally, the program provides Covid home test kits, face masks, hand sanitizers, hygiene kits, and referrals to improve quality of life and curb the spread of HIV and other communicable diseases.

SHIP/SHAP counselors are on site to help seniors with understanding Medicare and other health insurance, and with signing up for Medicare Part D, Medicare Savings Program, Benefits Access Application, etc.

DRS staff talk to persons with disabilities about their employment needs and help them find a job or get ready to go to work. They also make sure that people have the supports they need to stay on the job. Specialized vocational rehabilitation services for people who are: - Blind or visually impaired. - Deaf or hard of hearing. - Hispanic or Latino with disabilities. DRS help high school students who have disabilities plan for their futures after high school graduation. DRS Work Incentive Planning and Assistance Program helps people who receive SSDI/SSI benefits understand how working will affect their benefits. DRS Supported Employment Program (SEP) serves eligible people with significant disabilities who want to go to work and need on-going support services to succeed on the job.
