The Clerk of Court provides public services related to court proceedings and maintains records of all court records. This office receives, files, and maintains all of the documentation that comprises the official court record for the following case types: felonies; misdemeanors; traffic violations; ordinance violations; civil, family, or paternity court cases; juvenile injunctions; restraining orders; and small claims court cases. The Clerk of Court is responsible for the collection of case related fees, fines and forfeitures; case management and event tracking; budget planning; records management; courtroom operation support; jury management; and facility planning. This office also issues copies of divorce decrees for divorces granted in the county court and provides assistance and necessary forms needed to file a petition with the court for a legal name change.

TJLP utilizes paid staff and volunteers to conduct in person name change clinics and virtual 1:1 name change support and provides assistance to petitioners to update their name and gender marker on various identity documents (birth certificate, passports, drivers license and ID and other miscellaneous documents). Offers support with gender marker changes; helps clients with changing of the name and sex on their legal papers to their chosen name.

Offers assistance filing for legal name change in the State of Illinois for LGBTQ+ individuals. Offers assistance with the following: - Providing necessary court forms for the 19th Judicial Circuit Court - E-filing court forms - Providing name change and gender designation forms for the Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles, Social Security Administration, Illinois Department of Public Health and other states where available - Obtaining certified copies of court orders related to name changes - Alternate mailing address for court forms and notices - Financial assistance with paying for e-filing costs (for those who qualify) - Courtroom advocacy / accompaniment services
