Birthing Assistant (Doula) & Postpartum Support Specialists - BA NIA, Inc. - Main Office

BA NIA's Birthing Assistant (Doula) supports the mother throughout the duration of her pregnancy to promote safe and healthy delivery. This is done by providing an array of support and non-judgmental guidance, referrals, and resources. The Birthing Assistant attends prenatal appointments, creates birthing plans, and empowers the mother to advocate for herself through education. BA NIA's Birthing Assistants are trained, qualified, and certified to provide support during pregnancy, labor, and delivery. Postpartum Support Specialist pays special attention to the mother's needs after the birth so that she can nurture her baby while she herself is healing physically and emotionally. BA NIA's postpartum support specialist (PSS) supports the mother for a minimum of 8 weeks. They assist mothers with breastfeeding support, provide an array of referrals, and do light housekeeping. In addition but not limited to this, a mother can receive assistance with meal planning and preparation along with childcare and attending postpartum appointments if needed.

The Advancing Fathers program has a two-fold emphasis. First, to provide direct services to fathers and mothers to support and improve father involvement in the family. Secondly, to promote community awareness about the importance of fatherhood through the community Fatherhood Coalitions. Fatherhood coalitions are a powerful catalyst for connecting fathers to community programs. They help fathers increase their parenting skills and build and nurture connections with each other, with the mothers of their children, and with their children. Their skills-building workshops and parent support groups are available locally and virtually, making it possible for anyone throughout Illinois to join.

The Family Case Management (FCM) program provides comprehensive service coordination to improve the health, social, education, and developmental needs of pregnant women, and infants (0-12 months) from low-income families in the communities of Cook County. The Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program offers free mammograms, breast exams, pelvic exams, and Pap tests to eligible women. The Better Birth Outcomes (BBO) Program offers a standardized prenatal education curriculum to high-risk pregnant women in targeted areas of the state. WIC helps families eat well and stay healthy.

Kids Above All's Doula Program supports prenatal women and new moms, so they have a safe, healthy birth and a smooth transition into parenthood. DONA-certified doulas specialize in both birth and postpartum services. The doulas ensure pregnant women attend doctor's appointments, and that they have items, like a car seat and diaper bag, they need to care for their child on day one. After birth, Kids Above All's doulas provide breastfeeding support, transportation to doctor's visits for both baby and mom, and counsel new families on nutrition and meal preparation.
