Oak Leyden's Children's Services programming takes a unique, multi-disciplinary, team approach to facilitate the holistic development of children with developmental disabilities and delays. Oak Leyden therapists evaluate children in all areas of development and facilitate individualized therapy that fits the unique needs, challenges, and circumstances of your child. The Chicago Lighthouse's Birth-to-Three Early Intervention Program provides home-based developmental and family support to infants and toddlers with vision loss or multiple disabilities. Early intervention specialists visit families frequently, supporting parents to prepare their children for preschool and beyond. Services include visual, developmental, and occupational therapy, as well as optometric examinations through our Low Vision Clinic, social work, and psychological services.

The goal of Early Intervention (EI) is to help children with developmental delays as soon as possible so they can reach their fullest potential.Eligibility for EI is determined after a child has been evaluated by a health professional. Some children are diagnosed at birth with a condition that makes them eligible for EI, while other children may not be evaluated until they have exhibited a delay in reaching milestones.Additional services include pediatric occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech/language therapy.

The Adverse Pregnancy Outcome Reporting System High-Risk Infant Follow-up (APORS) program is for infants born with high-risk factors such as prematurity, small for gestational age, and birth defects. Infants who meet the high-risk eligibility guidelines are referred by the hospitals when the infant is discharged to go home. Nurses usually work with the infant and their families for the first two years of life. There is no income eligibility for participation in the program.

The environmet is highly structured and utilizes Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. Classroom model integrates a social workers to assist in promoting emotional and behavioral growth. A point and STEP system is utilized to reward children for positive behavior, track progress, and gauge readiness to re-integrate into the general education setting.

Enrolled families are connected to a Home Visiting professional who employs the Baby TALK Family Engagement Approach to meet families where they are. Home Visitors come alongside families prenatally through age three to collaborate around child and family goals, as well as child development and family interactions. Home Visits take place weekly or bi-weekly, depending on what is appropriate for the family.

Child and Family Connections (CFCs) provide a single point of entry to the Illinois Early Intervention Program (EI). Early Intervention offers developmental support and case coordination services for families with children under 3 years old with developmental delays. Service Coordinators assist referred families through the process of enrollment into the EI, as well as initiate referrals for evaluations and direct services. Eligible participants receive case coordinator through CFC to monitor individualized goals, strategies, and services. Additionally, staff assist families with the transition from the EI program into local school/care special education services based on the family's priorities and the child's needs.
CFCs also staffs a social-emotional consultant to provide coordinators and providers information, training, and consultations through reflective supervision; a parent liaison to contribute an understanding of the EI program through the lens of a parent with special needs; and a coordinator who acts as a liaison to community partners, providers, and referral sources.
