Nebraska Veterans' Aid Fund is a temporary emergency aid fund to assist veterans and their eligible family members if an unforeseen emergency occurs and are legal residents of this state on the date of application. Aid can only be used for food, fuel, shelter, wearing apparel, medical or surgical aid, and funeral expenses. Eligibility includes veterans who served on active duty of the Armed Forces of the United States, other than active duty for training, who were discharged or otherwise separated with a characterization of honorable or general (under honorable conditions) or died while in service or as a direct result of such service. Applications must be made through the County Service Officer or Post Service Officer of any recognized veterans' organization near the applicant's residence for submission to the Director of Veterans' Affairs.

Waiver of Tuition / Veterans' Affairs through the The University of Nebraska, state colleges, and community colleges shall waive all tuition on behalf of an eligible dependent of a veteran. To be eligible the dependent must meet the following requirements: Is a resident of this state and meets the institution's requirements for establishing residency for purposes of paying instate tuition. Has a parent, stepparent or spouse who served in the armed forces of the U.S. and died of a service-connected disability; or died subsequent to discharge as a result of injury or illness sustained while a member of the armed forces; or is permanently and totally disabled as a result of military service; or while a member of the armed forces of the US is classified MIA or as a POW during armed hostilities. Discharge records of veterans who entered from and returned to Nebraska upon separation from military service, and who had requested that Nebraska receive a copy. Written requests must be notarized.
