All dogs four months or older to be registered with the City of Chicago (per Municipal Code 07-12-140). Registering your dog with the City of Chicago may help the city locate a dog in the event it gets lost. The person who finds your dog simply calls Office of the City Clerk office at (312) 744-DOGS with the dog emblem number (on your dog's tag).

Our ITRAP program assists individuals and municipalities with trap/neuter/return resources and policies to humanely manage community cat populations.

Temporary shelter may be available for animals when their owner is staying at an area homeless shelter.

Provides a variety of enforcement, educational, and animal disposition services including, dog licensing, cruelty and complaint investigation, pet care presentations, animal adoptions.

For situations in which an animal's welfare may be in jeopardy (such as animal abuse, neglect, injury, or endangerment) or where public health or safety may be impacted (such as a bite, attack, or harassment of a person by an animal), contact the office to report what was seen or heard. An Animal Control Officer will be dispatched to investigate the situation.

Animal welfare services, including animal shelter, adoption program for homeless animals, advocacy for enforcement of county ordinances through the Lancaster County Sheriff's Department, pet therapy programs, development of legislation and ordinances, cremation, euthanasia, presentations to community groups, volunteer and education programs.

Meals on Wheels Chicago (MOWC) is now helping more seniors find nutrition at Nourish Chicago Pantry. This program improves seniors' quality of life and health by providing access to quality grocery items, including over 70% fresh produce, proteins, pantry, and wellness essentials. Each of the 40-50 items available at every event is ordered fresh just for Nourish Chicago Pantry guests. Seniors aged 55 and over are welcome to attend all Nourish Chicago Pantry events.The Nourish Chicago Pantry also offers animal wellness packs for cats and dogs that include a supply of food, preventative medicine, and toys to help take care of the pets that are taking care of their senior owners. Items rotate monthly depending on availability, but the food is always included to provide a reliable source of pet food for senior owners.

Responds to calls and aids in the rescuing of abandoned, sick or injured or stray animals.

Offers to Help find homes for adoptable animals No animal is ever turned away from the shelter regardless of health, age, breed, or temperament.

All pets for adoption will be spayed/neutered before leaving the shelter, are current on all age-appropriate vaccines and microchipped and tested for heartworms (dogs) or FELV (cats).

Macon County Animal Control has a veterinarian on staff.

Supervises Election and Voter Information, Tax Levies, Maps and Census Information, CAFR and Animal Licenses. Also helps residents living in a unincorporated part of Polk County to register their pets and receive an animal license.

PAWS Chicago Lurie Clinic provides spay/neuter for free and at a reduced cost to make sure it is accessible for all pets. Pricing is tiered so everyone can afford it. In addition to spay/neuter surgeries, the Lurie Clinic offers optional low-cost annual preventive services during Vaccine Clinic hours, including: vaccinations for rabies, distemper, bordetella, and canine flu, canine heartworm testing, feline FeLV/FIV combo testing, microchipping, Bravecto for flea and tick prevention, and Tri-Hear for heartworm prevention.
Domestic animal services including pet licensing, cattery and kennel licenses, farm animal permit inspections, trapping and hunting, bite investigations, cruelty investigations, enforcement of animal control codes.
Provides individually bagged pet food, to individuals who are elderly or disabled so they can keep their pet for companionship. Provides enough pet food for up to two pets.

Offers LIMITED Animal Control Services. The Village does NOT provide dead wildlife/animal removal services. Property owners should call a wildlife service for removal or throw the carcass in with their garbage (wear gloves, double bag a garbage bag).

Provides lost and found, adoption, and owner surrender services along with volunteering opportunities, character-building youth humane education programming, and a pet pantry.
The Love and Friendship Adoption Center provides fostering and adoption services for dogs and cats. The Center also provides education on the humane treatment of animals through public events. The center welcomes volunteers and relies on donations to continue to provide services. Lower cost micro-chipping and registration services are also available at the center.

PAWS Chicago connects pet owners suffering from a financial, health, domestic, or other crisis and in need of a temporary home for their dog or cat with a foster family in the area to care for and protect the pet until they can reunite. While not guaranteed that all animals will be accepted into the program, they will make every effort to find a qualified temporary foster family in the area.
