The Division of Comprehensive Psychiatric Services divides Missouri into 25 service areas. Each area has a Community Mental Health Center which provides psychiatric services to individuals in need; and is designated as the division's Administrative Agent. These Administrative Agents serve as the primary entry and exit point for state mental health services.

Fulton State Hospital serves as a treatment facility for persons found incompetent to proceed to trial, permanently incompetent to proceed to trial, sexually violent predators and those found not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect as ordered and determined by the court system in Missouri.
