U Chicago Addiction Medicine provides addiction recovery care and requires patients to stay at least overnight and often longer. Treatment and counseling programs are currently available for the following addictions: chemical, gambling, food, sex, internet, video game, shopping/spending, dual diagnosis, and chronic pain with addiction.

An individual may be referred to the acute inpatient psychiatric care if the individual has a behavioral health disorder that threatens the patient’s physical well-being or the well-being of others, to the extent that 24-hour monitoring is needed. This intensive hospitalization service offers needed stability in a safe and therapeutic, but sensitive and structured, environment.

When contacting the Access Center by phone or walking in, individuals are first evaluated by a mental health professional who will identify presenting problems. After consultation with a psychiatrist, potential patients will be matched with appropriate care within the hospital's programs or with other community resources.
Access Center offers Psychiatric Crisis/Emergency Assistance. All services through the emergency Access Center are of no cost to the patient or the referring party.
