The 4-East nursing unit is a 30-bed general medicine unit providing multidisciplinary care to patients with acute opiate and/or alcohol withdrawal or alcohol intoxication as their primary diagnosis. Medical detoxification is the safe management of the acute physical symptoms of withdrawal associated with stopping drug and/or alcohol use. The healthcare team works with the patient to stabilize their withdrawal symptoms as well as manage any other acute medical problems.
