Disaster Assistance is money or direct assistance to individuals, families and businesses in an area whose property has been damaged or destroyed by a disaster and whose losses are not covered by insurance. It is meant to help with critical expenses that cannot be covered in other ways. This assistance is not intended to restore damaged property to its condition before the disaster. If an Iowa county has received an Individual Assistance declaration, residents are eligible to register with FEMA.

In coming days and in coordination with state and local emergency management, FEMA will have staff visiting impacted neighborhoods. They will carry official ID and will not ask for money. This will include staff who are assessing damage and providing information to residents.
