Offers information on community services. Individuals will speak with an Information and Assistance Specialist who will assess their needs, answer questions, explain what programs are available, and assist them in securing the assistance they need.
Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation is a Community Action Agency. Family Service Specialists work with individuals and families facing difficult and crisis situations. They are able to provide assistance in connecting to needed community programs and services. In addition, base on funding and donations, the office can support a crisis fund which allows them to provide assistance with rent, medical and prescription expenses, gas money, utilities, and other basic necessities when the household is facing an emergency situation. The agency actively seeks funds for the crisis program and all funds donated to a county stay in that county and are used to support the residents of that county.

Christmas Programs
Provides information and referrals to available resources in the Polk County area. Information and referrals can include food programs, energy assistance, chore services, and Medicare and Medicaid information. Volunteer opportunities, educational, recreational programs and nutrition information is also available. Coordinates seven neighborhood-based senior centers and nine meal sites throughout Polk County. Contact your local community center for more information.
Assists Nebraskans who are 60 years and over or have a disability and/or their representatives in accessing services and supports to allow the person to live as independently as possible in the setting of their choice. ADRC staff are available by phone or in person to assist in accessing resources based on the person's needs and preferences. This may include providing information and referrals for services such as housing, personal care, transportation, food and nutrition, public benefits, therapies, employment, etc.

Aging and Disability Resource Centers
Advocacy and services for persons with all types of disabilities including skills training, peer counseling, information and referral, and technical assistance about the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Blind Services works with individuals one-on-one to instruct persons who have lost (or are losing) their vision, on how to read Braille and organize their household and travel. Produces and replicates Braille materials. Translates materials such as menus and brochures into Braille and produces multiple copies as a service to the community. (There is a normal cost per Braille page produced, plus $25 per hour for formatting.)

Captioning at Real Time (CART) provides the translation of spoken words into text using a stenotype machine operated by a stenographer/reporter. Real-time software is used to display the text onto a computer monitor, and a projector or other device is used to display the text on a television or larger screen. CART is especially valuable in large meetings or in communications with a person who is deaf or has hearing loss. CART can be utilized in following settings: community events and workshops, government, legal, educational, medical, theater and auditorium, and captioning of movies and videos.

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services provides one-on-one services for independent living skills training, information and referral, advocacy, and peer counseling. Serves as a TTY Distribution site for ITAC (Illinois Telecommunications Access Commission), which provides free TTY devices to Illinois residents. Distributes applications for Iowa TTY distributions for Iowa residents who are qualified (speech impaired or hard of hearing). Distributes amplified phones for residents of Illinois of all ages who have a difficult time hearing on the phone.

Provide information and resources on low-tech independent living devices such as magnifiers, talking watches, etc., when funding is available.

Housing assistance provides information and problem-solving assistance with locating and securing affordable, accessible housing, including research into public and private-sector housing markets.

Information and Referral service provides information through Illinois/Iowa Center for Independent Living's system and library. Requests for information can be made by phone, mail, or in person, and can include loans of library materials.

Outreach services offers presentations, brochures, media releases, public service announcements, media interviews, and video programs to inform the public of programs and services offered.

Volunteers are utilized in programs, services, and office operations; volunteers receive training and supervision appropriate to their duties.

Illinois Department of Human Services's (IDHS) Office of Rehabilitation Services helps individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, late-deafened, or deafblind find jobs, get ready to go to work, or obtain services to meet their needs. They serve as a resource to professionals, state agencies, community organizations, and the public, providing information related to employment, training, and accommodations for persons who have a hearing loss.

The Kedzie Center recognizes that the source of an individual's distress may be related to or exacerbated by difficulty accessing assistance in other areas of life, such as affordable child care, housing, or specialized mental health care. Community resource coordination services are available to support individuals in identifying and accessing available and necessary resources.
Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging offers services for people with dementia and their caregivers. Services include information and referral for Family Caregivers regarding Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, options counseling, case management, support group, training and education, and respite care options.
