The Family Matters School (TFMS) is a specialty Kindergarten through 4th-grade school with a focus on individualized learning guided by children's self-identified areas of interest. The School's curriculum focuses on mastering core competencies in reading and literacy, science, mathematics, and social-emotional learning. The children are grouped in two blended-age classrooms by ability, regardless of traditional grade placement. Great care is taken to provide an environment that is as comfortable as possible for children with sensory sensitivities, including warm LED lighting, ample space for movement, and time built into the daily schedule for decompression. The School has a maximum child-to-teacher ratio of twelve to one (12:1). It is the only sensory-support school in Chicago offering tuition on a sliding scale to be affordable for all families.
