A Knock at Midnight's Mentoring Program acts as a violence prevention and intervention resource for youth. This approach to mentoring involves youth in the decision-making process (i.e., scheduled meeting times, planned events, etc). An emphasis is placed on youth feeling supported and on creating a nurturing environment that enables them to take positive steps toward academic, social, and emotional growth. Lastly, this mentoring program is used as an intervention strategy to prevent youth from dropping out of high school. The AKAM mentorship program has a parent component. The parent component is the avenue through which parents are engaged. Through this component, skill building is provided for parents.
