Provides the Breast Cancer Navigation Program which helps to identify barriers to receiving care and helps patients navigate through their breast cancer journey, if needed. Women aged 40 and older who were overdue for their annual mammogram were the target population. Provides information and referral on non-medical aspects of blindness. Also offers scholarship assistance to blind/visually impaired post-secondary students, public education and awareness training, support to consumer advocates and legal assistance on matters relating to blindness. Consults with different industries regarding employment of blind and visually impaired individuals, governmental monitoring, consultation and advocacy (including the "Washington Connection"), a national legislative hotline, and an annual national convention. ACB holds an annual conference each July with a large trade show featuring the latest high- and low-tech gadgets for blind and visually impaired people. There are also a number of breakout sessions, seminars, workshops, technology training sessions and more. Each March the organization holds leadership meetings in Washington, D.C. which includes a day on Capitol Hill, where members visit their senators and representatives to discuss issues of concern to blind people. Volunteer opportunities available. Must be at least 15 years old, sighted, and able to walk long distances.
