WCHA has contracts with landlords in Winnebago, Boone, Jo Daviess and Ogle Counties for 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom apartments. Public Housing for mixed family, elderly, disabled includes: Collier Garden Apartments, Robert Johnston Garden Apartments, D'Agnolo Garden Apartments, and Champion Park Homes. Residents have access to the Resident Opportunity Support Program, which provides education, job training, adult literacy, computer access, health screening, transportation, childcare, etc.

Provides rental subsidies for eligible households and pays the landlords directly. Participants find their own housing in the private market that meets the requirements of the program. Clients pay the difference between the rent charged by the landlord and the amount subsidized by the program. The voucher program also has provisions that outline tenant and owner responsibility. Also offers specialized voucher programs for specific populations, including: - MVP Vouchers: vouchers for individuals with disabilities - Family Unification Program: vouchers for families who lack adequate housing or youth ages 18 - 21 years old and left foster care at age 16 years or older - HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing: vouchers for homeless citizens.
Provides one bedroom apartments with the maximum occupancy of two people. Rent is 30% of the household's adjusted gross income.

Section 8 Housing: Provides assistance for low-income families in the private rental market through a Housing Assistance Payments (HAP) contract. Voucher holders select a unit from the private rental market within Macon County. Program participants normally pay no more than 30% of their gross income for rent. The Authority subsidizes the balance of the rent to the landlord. DHA administers approximately 1,240 vouchers. Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers, Public Housing, Project Based Vouchers, and Rental Housing Support Programs provide rental assistance for very low-income persons in McHenry County. Currently, the Section 8 program is on a waitlist/lottery. The waitlist is closed to new applicants; no new applications can be submitted at this time. Project-based units are located in Woodstock and Lake in the Hills. Rental housing support units are located in Woodstock, McHenry, and Marengo.
