UCAN is designed to provide individualized support for area cancer patients. The mission is to help ease some of the burdens brought about in the wake of a cancer diagnosis, thereby enhancing the quality of life experienced by local cancer patients. Services include nutritional supplements, prescription expenses, transportation assistance, medical supplies and some financial aid to support activities of daily living such as utility bills, food and household items.

Stickney Township Emergency Assistance provides financial aid to help alleviate a life-threatening circumstance. A life-threatening circumstance is a condition that poses an imminent peril to health and or safety because of a lack of or the jeopardizing of the availability of shelter, food, or utility service. The requirements are the same as general assistance, and individuals may receive Emergency Assistance even though they have applied for and been approved to receive monthly welfare assistance (such as Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) as long as they have not yet begun to receive monthly payments of such assistance. However, if they have already begun receiving monthly payments of cash welfare assistance they cannot receive Emergency Assistance.
