- Ride in Kane: Eligible residents are offered subsidized curb-to-curb transportation available all day and night, year-round.

Computer Literacy Training Programs

Offers basic computer skills, including getting on the internet, searching for jobs, opening an e-mail account and using Word to create a resume.

A work training program for low-income job seekers age 55 and over. SCSEP offers job counseling, job training and support to help individuals make the transition to permanent employment. Participants usually work 20 hours per week and receive no less than the current minimum wage. The goal of the program is to help participants develop their work capabilities and obtain permanent employment with the assigned host agency or in the private sector. The U.S. Department of Labor gives each organization or state an annual grant to pay for its SCSEP program.

Public Internet Access Sites

Provides education for computer literacy skills, including navigating digital spaces, Google workplace tools, finding employment, and advancing in careers. Classes are offered virtually and in-person. Some classes are held at the Community Service Center of Northern Champaign County. Please call for the latest information.

Provides classes that teach participants how to operate a computer. Two types of classes are offered, beginner and advanced. Beginner classes focus on the basics of the computer such as the parts of the computer, the keyboard, and how to access and use the internet. Advanced classes focus on the various applications that can be found on a computer such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, OneDrive and Teams.

Offers a variety of services for men, women, and children experiencing homelessness, gives guests a safe place to be during the day with heating and cooling. Services include: Computer Learning Center, Referrals to community resources, job search assistance, life skills training, assistance with rental applications, and emergency clothing vouchers.

Offers help with developing or improving typing/keyboarding skills. Visit the North Side Library on the first Monday of the month at 3pm to practice and get one on one assistance. Laptops will be provided. All skill levels welcome.
