The department's primary function is to provide financial assistance to qualifying residents through General and Emergency Assistance. The Human Services Department also oversees the Township's Food Pantry, which is available to the Township residents six days per week. Department staff are also Accredited Veterans Service Officers who are able to assist Township Veterans and their families in applying for qualifying benefits from state and federal agencies. The Grower Apprenticeship is a 3-year practical adult education training program that guides participants towards commercially viable farm operations via cooperative growing, aggregation, and profit sharing. The Herbalism Apprenticeship requires a 100-hour commitment as participants learn to cultivate herbs, identify and observe the wild plants 'volunteering' alongside those intentionally planted.

The center is a valued resource for students conducting research, adult residents preparing resumes and searching for jobs online, and senior citizens having access to the Internet.The multi-function center is used by college students, job seekers, and seniors alike, who gain instruction and training in topics ranging from basic computer use to job searches and how to write a resume. The Computer Resource Center, which also provides other services that make it a multi-purpose resource center, is located at 5814 S. Wood Street at Growing Home's Urban Farm & Training Center.

Roll Call's Mentoring Employment Training Program (MET) provides youth and young adults employment opportunities, career development training, and a path to educational endeavors while actively participating in part-time and full-time subsidized work experience. The goal of the program is to address the lack of employment opportunities or disparities in underserved communities, which have been affected by the shortage of employment training, educational opportunities, and youth violence.Participants will be provided with temporary part-time/full-time work experience and mentoring; transitioning to unsubsidized employment opportunities with a non-profit agency, community-based organization, and the private sector.
