Combined administration of all state prisons, juvenile centers, and adult and juvenile parole services. Services include constituent services/family liaison, victim services, adult education and vocational services, structured impact programs, life skills re-entry centers, summit of hope events, community support advisory councils, and parole re-entry group. 

Provides health legal services that helps individuals and families obtain and maintain Medicaid and Medicare and obtain coverage for services needed. Can also assist with medical assistance denials, terminations, spend down issues (Medicaid, Medicare), establishing powers of attorney, nursing home discharges, helping family members obtain guardianship or other legal authority to care for loved ones, and helping people with HIV/AIDS obtain care and services.

Offers services for homeless youth and their families. Helps students enroll or stay in school. Connects families to community resources for health, transportation, food, and more.

- Intermittent Residential Services: Offers a bridge between living at home and complete independence for adults with epilepsy and developmental disabilities. Comprehensive case management and sometimes multiple weekly visits are offered for these individuals.

- Comprehensive Residential Services: Community Integrated Living Arrangement (CILA) consists of four residential programs serving adults with epilepsy and/or other developmental disabilities who need help in day to day living (24 hours a day).

Provides a public library serving residents of the City of Peru.

Environmental health services include:

• Private sewage disposal & water supply programs
• Food safety
• Food service sanitation program
• Vector control

Provides information on STI's/STDs, including AIDS/HIV. KCHD also provides referrals to centers for STI/STD and AIDS/HIV screening, testing, and treatment.

Offers support groups for individuals who have experienced strokes or cancer and individuals who had weight loss surgery.

Offers a medical equipment program that provides walkers, canes, commodes, bath chairs, and other assistive devices to the general public for no cost. Donations welcome.

Provides safe, sanitary, and affordable rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Several public housing apartments are available throughout the county. Including Amboy and Sublet.

​Responds to calls and aids in the rescuing of abandoned, sick or injured or stray animals.

Offers to Help find homes for adoptable animals No animal is ever turned away from the shelter regardless of health, age, breed, or temperament. All pets for adoption will be spayed/neutered before leaving the shelter, are current on all age-appropriate vaccines and microchipped and tested for heartworms (dogs) or FELV (cats). Macon County Animal Control has a veterinarian on staff.

SASS provides the following services for children and youth:

Crisis intervention

Short-term stabilization where a child is at risk of self-harm, or harming others

Individual and family psychotherapy/counseling

Mental health assessment

Case management and resource linkage assistance

Provides a public library to the community which includes books, programs and resources. Services also include personal book shopper, book delivery, mobile pick-up, passport agency, notary services, jobs and small business help, and public access computers. 

Provides nutritious lunches in a friendly environment. Each meal includes a combination of protein, vegetables, fruit, grain, and milk.

Menus are approved by a registered dietitian to ensure they meet 1/3 of the daily recommended intake of essential nutrients.

Provides Medicaid and Medicare-certified low cost clinics offering "one stop shop" for general health care needs.

Extended day care is provided for children from kindergarten to 5th grade attending School District 158. Services include summer camps, seedlings preschool, beyond the bell (after-school program), school's out (after-school program), and special event rental spaces. 

Provides affordable senior rental housing for adults 62 years and older. Offers apartments at unrestricted market rates and area median income limits. There are also a limited number of units with rental subsidies. Contact for more information on available units

Provides individual counseling, psychiatric services, and crisis intervention for a full range of concerns. Also offers group counseling, career exploration, including clarification of values, abilities, and academic major interests, and general workshops related to mental health, wellness, dealing with stress, and coping with the challenges of college life.

Provides a leisure environment with programs, parks, facilities, and services. Works to preserve and protect open land and water areas in an effort to improve the quality of life for local residents.
