Accepts consumer complaints regarding utility services, including electricity, natural gas, local telephone, sewer or water. Complaints also accepted for a variety of other services including railroad crossing, household goods movers.
Team members also assist individuals with referrals to investigative agencies when appropriate.

When temperatures reach 95 degrees or higher or if the heat index reaches or excedes 100 degrees then utility companies are legally allowed to shut off electricity until the weather cools. This law is addressed under MO state statute 660.123.
Consumers can register complaints about services, and obtain assistance for a resolution.
Provides assistance to homeowners who need to report problems with their homeowner's insurance providers. Also provides assistance to people who need to report problems with their vehicle insurance providers.
Environmental Health Service - Sewage Complaints: Accepts and where possible, attempts to resolve complaints regarding the sewer system.
Processes consumer complaints against businesses, includes mediation, and if necessary, arbitration.
Works to identify or investigate concerns made by or on behalf of people living in long-term care facilities. Assistance may include: investigation and work to resolve the problem, information on laws and regulations, how to choose a long-term care facility or answering questions about life at a facility. Assist callers in level of care needed (info about nursing homes, residential care, elder group homes, assisted living). All services are confidential and free of charge.

Administers the city's online service request reporting system, Acting with Citizens To Improve Our Neighborhoods (ACTION) Center, providing in-depth responses to concerns that become complex. People can find out about the laws that deal with their concern and report to the appropriate department any violations or problems they see in the community.

Problem Resolution Team, comprised of all City enforcement and codes compliance agencies and departments, brings problem properties back into compliance with local law.

Provides education and information to homeowners who need to hire a contractor and/or have a home improvement projects to reduce fraud and being taken advantage of. Also, provides information to homeowners who have been victimized by a contractor or have any questions regarding anything to do with a home improvement or home repair project.
Illinois Guardianship and Advocacy Commission receives and investigates complaints against providers of services for disabled consumers.

Offers to investigates and processes claims relating to unpaid wages, vacation pay, unpaid expenses, unauthorized deductions, minimum wage, and related matters. If a case cannot be settled or mediated, the Iowa Division of Labor may file a suit against the employer.

The board of medicine only regulates physicians (M.D./D.O.) acupuncturist and genetic counselors. The Board does not have the authority to get involved in some matters, such as complaints involving health care professionals regulated by other agencies and complaints against hospitals, nursing homes and insurance companies. The Board cannot be involved in suing a licensee for damages or settling disputes over billing or disability ratings.

Conducts peer review, a process by which the dental profession reviews and resolves problems or misunderstandings regarding dental treatment; the appropriate form will be sent to the patient. Once the complaint is received, it will be forwarded to the appropriate district for review. The peer review process handles only member complaints.

Education services provided through speaker's bureau or videos.

Administers the Volunteer Physician Program (VPN) that provides specialty care for Central Iowans who are uninsured, underinsured, or undocumented, whose income level is at or under 200% of the federal poverty guidelines, who are not eligible for any government funded programs. This program may be accessed through over 54 Safety Net and Free Clinics of Iowa, Primary Health Care and Proteus by referral, after a patient is financially vetted to qualify financially for this program and not be eligible for any other program.
